“He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves.”” Mark 11:17 NLT
To be honest, I am not passionate about prayer as we know it in the Church today. I have a rather difficult time spending hours and hours praying and tarrying. I will give about an hour, if so much, then I will be fast asleep. To set aside time specifically to pray about specific issues and situations, I must write down everything I need to pray about. Even then I do not tarry over them. I present them to God and finish. I will, however, talk to God throughout my day about many different things. For instance, while commuting to and from work or watching a movie or cooking or reading. You know, we have a chat about any and everything.
The fact that I could not, for the love of me, tarry in prayer for hours used to bother me until I realized that
We have all been given a different measure of grace or enablement for different things in life.
That is why no two people pray the same, worship the same, minister the same or have the same impact in what they do. Nonetheless, we should be a people of prayer; whether we talk to God quietly in our hearts during the day or set aside time to pray in the morning or evening.
Throughout the Bible, it is evident that the people of YHVH are called to be and ought to be a people of prayer.
Prayer keeps the communication lines open and aids us in maintaining our relationship with our Father.
Because prayer is key, we are heavily attacked in this area of our lives. Therefore, many times we succumb to the afflictions of the enemy in this area and we do not live lives marked by prayer.
We need to understand though that if Messiah Yeshua is LORD of our lives, then our bodies are temples of God and homes to the HOLY Spirit. We are to be houses of prayer. If not, a house of prayer, what then have we made His house into? – A closet of vanity? A basement of hatred? A penthouse of pride? A den of gossip?
“Don’t you know that your body is a temple for the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don’t belong to yourselves; for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 CJB)
As we seek to realign our lives, let us go back to the foundation of prayer.
– Putting this house in order
My prayer group is my lifeline, but I have to remind myself not to hold on to my prayers until then. I have an alarm on my phone to interrupt my day and remind me to pray. Thank you for sharing!

You’re welcome! The alarm is a great idea! Sometimes we do need a reminder, lest we become neglectful.

I too have sometimes felt guilty for not pausing long enough to pray for hours like some others do, but you’re so right — it’s about being in communication with God, not about the length of time we spend. Thanks for sharing this. I’m focusing this year on going back to the basics!
Blessings to you,
