The Torah of ADONAI is perfect, restoring the inner person. The instruction of ADONAI is sure, making wise the thoughtless. The precepts of ADONAI are right, rejoicing the heart. The mitzvah of ADONAI is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of ADONAI is clean, enduring forever. The rulings of ADONAI are true, they are righteous altogether, more desirable than gold, than much fine gold, also sweeter than honey or drippings from the honeycomb. Through them your servant is warned; in obeying them there is great reward. Psalm 19:8-12 CJB
The Torah of the LORD speaks of His doctrine or law. The verse states that it is perfect, which means that it possesses all the required and desirable elements, qualities and characteristics. It is faultless and exact. When we walk in the Torah of YHVH, we will walk in integrity; and this integrity produces restoration.
If we wish to be restored in our inner most being, we must abide by the perfect law of the LORD.
The instruction of the LORD speaks of His order or direction. It is declared as sure. It is true beyond any doubt and it can be relied on and trusted. The surety of the instruction of YHVH breeds wisdom. If we desire wisdom, we must walk by the direction of the LORD.
A precept is a general rule intended to regulate behaviour or thought. The LORD’s precepts are right. When we follow them, we follow a righteous path. This righteousness then releases joy – a joy that flows from within our hearts.
The mitzvah of God speaks of His commands. They are pure – wholesome, untainted and free from all contamination. The purity of the commands of the LORD brings enlightenment.
We gain understanding, insight and discernment when we obey the mitzvah of YHVH.
To fear the LORD means to treat Him with deep respect. Fearing YHVH encompasses purity. It brings us to the place of childlike innocence and humility. When we respect God and continue in it, we tap into an eternal endurance that will cause us to stand and persevere against every thing coming our way.
A ruling is an authoritative (legal) decision or pronouncement, especially one made by a judge. Every decision and pronouncement made by the LORD are true. They stand above and override every fact. When the LORD declares a thing, it holds weight and shall manifest despite what comes against it. This truth of YHVH’s rulings begets righteousness. Its value is worth more than gold and precious stones.
When we hold to the rulings of God we will experience satisfaction, sustenance and savour like no other.
Through all of these – His law, direction, precept, commands, ruling – coupled with a deep respect for Him we are warned. However, if we choose to walk in obedience we will receive great reward. In realigning our lives, let us choose obedience.
